The Minnesota Lynx have signed Tanisha Wright. The 12-year veteran last played in the WNBA in 2016 for the New York Liberty.

Wright was selected 12th overall out of Penn State by the Seattle Storm in the 2005 WNBA Draft. She spent the first 10 seasons of her career in Seattle, including their 2010 championship season.

Wright was a First Team All-Defense selection five times for the Storm. She also earned Second Team All-Defense honors in her two seasons with the Liberty.

Minnesota head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve said the following in Tuesday’s release:

"We are very excited to welcome Tanisha back to the WNBA and specifically to the Minnesota Lynx. Tanisha has proven herself to be a formidable opponent throughout her career. She’s tough, experienced and as competitive as anyone I’ve coached against. She’s the kind of player who always makes the game difficult for her opponent, so it goes without saying that we’re really looking forward to having her on our side."

Wright opted to sit out the 2017 WNBA season. She just completed her first season as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

The 5’11 guard is one of 10 players in WNBA history with at least 3,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,200 assists. Wright played in the WNBA playoffs in 11 of her 12 pro seasons. She also was a very durable player, appearing in 32 or more regular season games in 10 of her 12 seasons.

Following the retirement of Jia Perkins and departure of unrestricted free agent Renee Montgomery, the Lynx managed to restock their backcourt with two veterans. The Lynx acquired point guard Danielle Robinson last week in exchange for their 2018 first round pick:

Alexis Jones also returns in the backcourt for the Lynx. Jones was selected in the first round of the 2017 WNBA Draft by the Lynx and took on a larger role late in the regular season. Wright will be joined on the wing by Cecilia Zandalasini, who was re-signed in February after joining the Lynx as a rookie last August.
