Dallas Wings re-sign Theresa Plaisance to multi-year deal

The Dallas Wings announced the re-signing of restricted free agent Theresa Plaisance to a multi-year deal Friday afternoon.

Originally selected by the Tulsa Shock in the third round (27th overall) of the 2014 WNBA Draft, Plaisance enjoyed a career year in 2017 with the franchise. Plaisance started 25 games and averaged 7.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Plaisance shot 34.4% on 122 three-point attempts last season. Plaisance’s shooting with the starting unit opened up the lane for Glory Johnson to mix it up more often inside. Plaisance was also an effective pick-and-pop partner with All-WNBA point guard Skylar Diggins-Smith. And just by spending more time spotting up on the perimeter than most bigs, Plaisance opened up driving lanes for her teammates to get all the way to the basket.
Plaisance is one of four players (Skylar Diggins-Smith, Glory Johnson, Karima Christmas-Kelly) that has been with the franchise since the move from Tulsa prior to the 2016 WNBA season. Those four players, along with 2017 WNBA Rookie of the Year Allisha Gray, were the most-used starting lineup for Wings head coach Fred Williams in 2017.
Plaisance suffered a torn ACL in October playing for CCC Polkowice of the EuroLeague. Depending on how her rehab progresses, she may not see the floor at all in the upcoming 2018 WNBA season.
Much is still to be determined in the Dallas frontcourt, as Liz Cambage declared her intentions to return to the WNBA in 2018. The Wings have exclusive negotiating rights with Cambage — the two-year WNBA veteran last played for the franchise in 2013.

Also noteworthy with the Dallas frontcourt situation: Courtney Paris signed a multi-year deal with the Seattle Storm on Friday. Paris was the starter at the five spot for the Wings to begin the 2017 season, but missed over a month with a knee injury early in the season.
