The Big 12 Conference announced their weekly honors for week 11 on Monday. Preseason Big 12 player of the year, Kalani Brown, earned player of the week for the first time this season. Brown is joined by Oklahoma’s Shania Pellington, as she grabbed the freshman of the week honor.

More from High Post Hoops

Baylor’s junior center Kalani Brown collected her first POW honor of the season after averaging 29.0 points and 14.0 rebounds in wins over Iowa State and K-State. Brown became the third player in league history to score at least 33 points and grab 19 rebounds in a Big 12 game as the Lady Bears knocked off K-State. The performance marked the 6-7 center’s eighth double-double of the season and the 20th of her career.

Through 18 games, Brown leads the Big 12 in scoring (21.7) and field goal percentage (.706), is second in defensive rebounds (6.6), fourth in rebounding (9.3), seventh in offensive rebounds (2.8), eighth in free throw percentage (.788) and ninth in blocked shots (1.2). Brown is third in the league with eight double-doubles on the season.

Shania Pellington has found herself with the freshman of the week honor for the second time this season. Pellington averaged 21 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds, as Oklahoma went 1-1 last week. The freshman netted a season-high 26 points against Oklahoma State – the most for a Sooner freshman against a Big 12 opponent since 2011.

The freshman fueled OU’s comeback win at Kansas State last Wednesday, adding 16 points and recording a career-high six assists on the road against the Wildcats. During the 2017-18 season, Pellington leads all Big 12 freshmen in scoring (12.7 points per game) and field goal percentage (.517). Pellington’s .517 shooting percentage ranks second nationally among all Division I freshmen.

Some milestones were hit around the league this past week. Baylor’s Kalani Brown and Lauren Cox has 19 rebounds apiece in their win over K-State, marking the first time that two teammates had 19+ rebounds in a Big 12 game.

Also, TCU has made their way into the AP Poll at No. 24 for the first time since 2010 thanks to their upsets of Texas and West Virginia. TCU is led by Amy Okonkwo (55.3% FG, 42.4 3 PT%, 90.4 FT%). Okonkwo is accompanied by Texas’ Ariel Atkins (54.9 FG%, 41.4 3PT%, 86.3 FT%) as two-of-nine autonomy conference players with at least 50.0% field goal percentage, 40% three point percentage, and 80% free throw percentage.

Be on the lookout for these leaders in action this week.
