United States defeats Sweden in World University Games finale
Brianna Fraser scored 18 points to lead the United States to an 86-65 win over Sweden on Monday in the World University Games in Taiwan.

The U.S., represented by the Maryland women’s basketball team, finished 5-1 in the World University Games.
"“I’m really proud of the growth and the steps we’ve taken over this trip,” head coach Brenda Frese said of her team in a release. “We’ve played six games in a week, plus two friendlies, and we’ve learned so many things about ourselves and our team that will carry through to this season.”"
Blair Watson had 15 points, including seven straight at the end of the first quarter, to get the U.S. going. Sarah Myers added 10 points and nine rebounds of her own, as she looks to take a major step forward heading into her sophomore year.
Overall, the U.S. shot 11-16 from the field in the first quarter en route to a 15-point halftime lead. In the second half, it was the defense that kept Sweden at bay. Sweden shot just 6-22 in the second half.
With the win, the United States locked up a fifth-place finish ahead of the closing ceremonies on Aug. 30. Maryland will open its regular season on Fri., Nov. 10 with a home game against Albany.
