Indiana Fever guard Tiffany Mitchell is a noticeable spark for her team in a post-Tamika Catchings era.  Though she has yet to complete two full seasons, she continues to impress with her energy and passion for the game.

Mitchell was the 9th overall pick in the 2016 WNBA draft and made a statement upon her league debut with the Fever.  On May 14, the first game she played on the professional level, Mitchell scored a game-high 18 points against the Dallas Wings.  She continued to perform well, which led her to accomplishments such as setting a franchise record of 42 consecutive made free throws and being named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team.

Post-rookie year, Mitchell traveled to Orenburg, Russia to compete with Nadezhda.  She averaged 2.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 steals in the Russian Superleague and 9.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in EuroLeague games (wnba.com).  After the 2017 WNBA season concludes, Mitchell will head to Turkey for overseas play.

The Summitt sat down with the 2-year pro and discussed the new construct of the Indiana Fever after losing their long-term franchise player, Catchings, as well as her sentiments toward the remainder of the season.  Coming out of a huge win against the Minnesota Lynx on August 6, Mitchell plans to play like she “[has] nothing to lose.” She mentions repeatedly how the Fever are “a vet-heavy team,” which allows her to be the energetic young player on the court.

Mitchell and the Fever (9-17) take on the New York Liberty (12-12) tonight, August 8, at Madison Square Garden. Watch below for our chat with Mitchell!
