WNBA All-Star 2017: Sun coach Curt Miller to replace Liberty’s Bill Laimbeer as East coach
While replacement players trickled in for the 2017 WNBA All-Star teams, the league also made an unexpected switch on the Eastern Conference bench. Connecticut Sun coach Curt Miller and his staff will replace Liberty coach Bill Laimbeer and his staff as the coaches of the East, the WNBA announced on Wednesday.

The switch comes so that Laimbeer can attend to a personal matter, according to the league.

Laimbeer said that his wife caught a virus while she was on a trip and is on road to recovery so he wants to spend time with her.

Laimbeer initially earned the coaching title by leading the Liberty to the best regular-season record in the conference last year. Miller gets the nod now as the coach of the team with the best record in the East so far this season. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve will lead the West.
In the WNBA’s press release, Miller said:
"“We’re excited as a staff, but we know our place. This is Bill Laimbeer and his staff’s opportunity and we are just substitutes. We are very excited about being in first place as we head into the All-Star break and we look forward to coaching this great All-Star team…But we are just filling in and we are going to do the best job we can for Bill and that great staff in New York.”"
The All-Star Game will take place on Saturday in Seattle. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will air on ABC.
