Host Howard Megdal is joined by Atlanta Dream guard Brittney Sykes. The seventh pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft has been on fire of late, scoring 16.5 per contest over her past seven games, all of them in the starting lineup.

More from Atlanta Dream

Sykes recalled a prophecy she made on draft night—not spent at the draft itself, but among friends and family in Newark—that she would be the league’s Rookie of the Year. What’s followed, from her seamless fit into Atlanta head coach Michael Cooper’s system to a broad-based success that includes an impressive block and rebound percentage, not to mention a top-15 defensive mark, has the league talking about her the way she thought of herself back in April.

Now as the Dream look to achieve well beyond what anyone predicted for them—Sykes said she and her teammates believe a championship this year is well within reach—the rookie is central to everything they do at both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.

Listen to Sykes provide insight on exactly what it feels like to be a WNBA rookie, what she’s enjoying most about the experience, with some extra fun stories thrown in about her time playing with Breanna Stewart on the AAU circuit.
