WATCH: Tamika Catchings honors her mentor, Pat Summitt

Wednesday is the one-year anniversary of legendary Tennessee coach Pat Summitt’s passing, and as you might expect, the tributes are pouring in. They’re pretty much all worth viewing — just check Twitter — but this one in particular, from Tamika Catchings, is quite moving.

In the video, Catchings explains what Summitt meant to her and so many others in her own words:

“She was in your face but she always had your back,” Catchings says. “She taught us that ambition and kindness can go hand-in-hand.”

It’s a lot of what we’ve heard over the years from Summitt’s former players, but it’s worth hearing again. We remember Summitt as one of the greatest coaches of all time — of any sport and any gender — and it’s easy to forget that to many, she was much more than that.
