New York Liberty guard Brittany Boyd tore her left Achilles tendon during Thursday night’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx, an MRI confirmed on Friday.

She will undergo surgery on Monday, to be performed by team physician Dr. Jo Hannafin, the Liberty announced in a press release.

Head coach Bill Laimbeer offered his thoughts Friday in the release as well:

"“Brittany suffered an unfortunate injury after working hard to come into this season prepared to lead our team from the point guard position,” said Liberty head coach Bill Laimbeer. “She had an excellent training camp, and was poised for a breakout season, as evidenced by the way she performed in our first two games. We are all hoping for a speedy recovery.”"

The Liberty did not give a timeline for Boyd’s return, but it appears she will miss significant time. ESPN’s Holly Rowe reported Thursday that she could be out for the remainder of the season.

Through two games, Boyd is averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. The Liberty return to the court Tuesday in Phoenix.
