For all who expected the Kelsey Plum-San Antonio Stars drama to end with the arrival of the 2017 WNBA Draft April 13, prepare to be disappointed. Nearly a week after the Stars made her the number one pick, her future team is still in question.

According to multiple sources familiar with Plum’s thinking, it all comes down to whether, like Ilsa Lund in Casablanca, she gets on that plane.

Plum is scheduled for a hectic, full-day media blitz in San Antonio Friday. But as of now, still unsigned, it remains uncertain whether she’ll make that trip. If she arrives in San Antonio, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation, she’ll be signing in San Antonio. If not, well, get ready for a drawn-out battle.

There’s another scenario, of course: San Antonio could still trade Plum. It is the preference of Plum’s camp, and it makes some sense for the Stars as well. It is unknown who they have engaged as of now, though a number of previous suitors through draft day are no longer in talks with the Stars.

For the league’s part, a resolution that allows them to start marketing Plum in full force would be ideal, however this all shakes out.

So get your stakeout ready at San Antonio International Airport, Kelsey Plum fans. The future of the WNBA’s most impressive rookie may rest on whether she’s picking up at baggage claim over the next 18 hours or not.
